KUCHING, Feb 5: Meritocracy should also be considered in the recruitment of civil servants, says Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Dr Sim said apart from fulfilling a quota based on ethnicity, capable individuals are also needed in the civil servants.
“We want to emphasise here is that recruitment of civil servants is not just based on quota but we want people based on merits,” he told reporters when met after launching Sarawak HEAR Health Carnival held at Farley Kuching, here today.
He was responding to a question from reporters regarding the quota system that was suggested by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secretary general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
On Feb 10, in welcoming the suggestion by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to improve the salary scheme for Sarawak’s civil servants, Nanta recommended the Sarawak government establish a race-based quota system at the recruitment level.
Meanwhile, according to Dr Sim, he has been highlighting that Sarawakians should be represented not only in the civil service, but in all sectors too, since 2018.
He said this is because Sarawakians are also keen to contribute to building the nation and Sarawak.
“I am happy that finally, other people also bringing this matter up (on the quota),” he said. — DayakDaily
