MIRI, April 14: An early morning fire razed the residence of Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration, and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala, in Kampung Pa Umor, Bario.
The blaze has left behind a scene of destruction, prompting urgent responses from firefighters and law enforcement to manage the situation and commence investigations into the cause.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), authorities are mobilising to assist and investigate the incident promptly.
DayakDaily was told that Gerawat, who is also Mulu assemblyman, was en route back to his village upon receiving news of the incident.
DayakDaily’s attempts to reach Gerawat regarding the incident have been unsuccessful, as his phone remains unreachable.
Kampung Pa Umor, nestled about an hour’s walk east of Bario, is a quaint village with serene surroundings.
Its proximity to the Indonesian border is close just a few kilometres away. — DayakDaily
