SIBU, April 20: Eight individuals including six women have been arrested for indulging in a Zumba dance exercise at a gymnasium, which defied the movement control order.
Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, said at about 12.15pm today, a police team went to a gym located on the first floor of a shophouse at Jalan Salim after receiving information from the public that a Zumba class was taking place.
“When the team arrived at the place, they had to call several times before the gate was opened for them to enter,” he said.
He added that the team found two men and six women in the midst of doing Zumba activity.
“Besides ignoring the presence of the police team, the suspects were not cooperative as they questioned the need for the raid,” he said.
Stanley said the suspects were subsequently put under arrest and sent to the Lanang police station.
The case, he added, was being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing civil servants from discharging their duty, and also under Regulation 6 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) (No 3) 2020.
