Search for missing man in Batang Rajang Sibu comes up empty on second day

KUCHING, April 20: The second day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation for a man in his 60s who is feared drown after his fishing boat sank in Batang Rajang Sibu yesterday afternoon came up empty.

The SAR team had increased the search radius from one kilometre to two kilometre from the scene of the incident.


The SAR operation today was ended around 4.50pm due to rain and it will resume tomorrow.

The capsize incident is believed to have occured around 1.50pm yesterday.

The victim’s family member, who was with the victim, was able to save himself during the incident by swimming to a nearby tugboat. However, he failed to locate the victim after the boat sank.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) had deployed a SAR team to the scene upon receiving the alert. — DayakDaily
