KUCHING: A dead baby was found last night inside a box which was placed outside a mosque at Taman Sri Wangi.

The body was discovered by a member of the mosque after he detected the stench of decay outside the mosque around 9pm.

“The rotten smell came out from a box which had been placed on the fence pillar since the afternoon of May 8,” Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Awang Din Awang Gani revealed.

“According to one of the members of the mosque, none of the members went and opened the box for the last few days as they thought the box might belong to someone.”

When the mosque member opened the box, he was shocked to see a dead baby wrapped in a towel inside it.

The police were contacted and their personnel deployed to the scene to investigate. The body was sent to the Sarawak General Hospital for further action.

“This case will be investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code. Members of the public may contact the police at 082-221134 or 082-244444 if they have any information about this case,” Awang Din added. — DayakDaily
