BAU, Aug 6: A 55-year-old female teacher was found unconscious in the female teachers’ toilet at SMK Bau yesterday (Aug 5), with police classifying the case as a Sudden Death Report (LMM).
Bau District Police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said police received an emergency call at about 8.53am, alerting them that a woman had collapsed inside a school toilet along Jalan Sebuku.
“Upon arrival, the victim was found lying unconscious on the floor of the female teachers’ toilet,” he said as reported by Utusan Sarawak.
Mohd Haide said the victim had been serving as a Science and Biology teacher at SMK Bau for about 25 years.
According to her colleagues, she was last seen at around 8.15am after telling them she was going to the toilet.
“When she failed to return to class, a colleague went to check on her and found her unconscious before contacting the emergency services,” he said.
The victim’s death was confirmed by a medical assistant from Bau Hospital at 9.08am.
Mohd Haide said initial police checks found no signs of injury or criminal elements on the victim.
The body was later sent to Bau Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
The case is being investigated as a Sudden Death Report (LMM), with police recording witness statements as part of the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, SMK Bau extended its deepest condolences to the family of the late teacher, identified as Wong Lee Choo, describing her passing as a great loss to the school community.
In a statement, the school said Wong’s contributions, commitment and dedication in educating the younger generation would always be remembered and cherished.
“May her family be granted strength, patience and resilience in facing this difficult and sorrowful time,” it said.
The school also paid tribute to Wong for her years of service, contributions and sacrifices, adding that her dedication would remain valued by the entire SMK Bau community. — DayakDaily
