KUCHING, July 11: The Sarawak flag flying from the nation’s tallest flagpole near Fort Margherita here is not torn, but simply folded up due it to being wet from the rain.
This was clarified by Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) director Mohamed Khaidir Abang in a statement today.
He noted that a video clip recently went viral in social media, depicting the Sarawak flag in torn condition.
“Please be advised that the statement and video are not true.
“Initial action was taken by the DBKU officials at the location of the giant flagpole and found that the flag was wet, which had caused the flag to fold and look like it was damaged and torn.
“For information, the Sarawak flagpole has been planned to be installed for a month as a trial run to identify the direction and change of the wind, the suitability of the mechanical system for raising the flag, the suitability of the flag building materials and so on,” he stated. — DayakDaily
