KUCHING, Nov 7: The Sarawak government is continuing the phased redevelopment of Darul Hana, including building an additional 94 housing units to meet the housing needs of residents affected by the project.

“I want the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), together with the relevant agencies, to continue ensuring that project progress, construction quality, infrastructure provision, and residents’ welfare receive due attention,” he said in a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report.

He said this in his speech text, which was read out by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi at the opening ceremony of the Darul Hana Carnival 2026 at Darul Hana Housing Estate here today.

According to Abang Johari, the Darul Hana Development Project covers about 722 acres along the Sarawak River, aiming to provide safer housing, better basic amenities, and a comfortable, well-planned residential environment.

He said the redevelopment also considered the area’s settlement history, family ties, and the needs of residents who had lived there for generations.

“We must understand that the success of a resettlement programme does not depend solely on the construction of houses, but also on the residents’ ability to adapt to their new surroundings,” he said.

He also called on LCDA and the relevant agencies to focus on providing business spaces, recreational facilities, green spaces, and social amenities to ensure the housing development grows into a modern, safe and well-organised community without neglecting the identity of the local population.

At the same event, Affin Bank presented a contribution of RM1,000 to Darul Hana Mosque, while LCDA channelled zakat contributions amounting to nearly RM50,000 to several recipients, including mosques and surau in the Darul Hana area, as well as several educational institutions such as Gersik National School (SK), Matu Baru National School (SK), and the KEMAS Kindergarten in Kampung Gersik.

The Darul Hana Carnival 2026 was also held in conjunction with the 10th anniversary celebration of Darul Hana Mosque and the 45th anniversary of LCDA, serving as a platform to strengthen unity and community spirit among Seberang Hilir residents. — DayakDaily
