KUCHING, Aug 11: A forest fire in Kampung Kut, Daro, has affected an estimated 10 hectares of land, with firefighters managing to extinguish three hectares as operations entered its second day today.
According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 1.51pm on Monday (Aug 10), and firefighters from the Dato station were deployed.
The team used a portable pump and a 400-foot water line drawing water from a drain to control and extinguish the fire.
Bomba said firefighters managed to control and extinguish the blaze across three hectares of the affected area, leaving an estimated seven hectares still affected.
However, the operation was suspended at 4.44pm after the water source from the drain dried up.
Firefighters subsequently returned to the station, with the operation postponed to tomorrow (Aug 12).
Bomba identified several challenges during the operation, including unsatisfactory Government Integrated Radio Network (GIRN) coverage, strong winds that caused the fire to spread quickly, insufficient water supply, and narrow road access. — DayakDaily
