MIRI, Sept 25: Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) Lim Hui Ying has kept mum when asked to comment on whether the party’s coalition, Pakatan Harapan (PH), will contest in the Jepak by-election this Nov 4.
“I’m here for a working visit. It is not relevant for me to comment on that,” said Lim, who is Deputy Education Minister, to reporters during a working visit to SJK(C) Chung San Miri today.
Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chien Jen, who was also present, did not comment either.
The Jepak seat was vacated following the death of its incumbent, Datuk Talib Zulpilip, at Normah Medical Specialist Centre on Sept 15.
Meanwhile, on her working visit, Lim presented allocations worth RM350,000 to SJK(C) Chung Hua Lutong (RM150,000), SJK(C) Chung San Miri (RM100,000), and SMK Dato Permaisuri Miri (RM100,000) to improve their facilities.
“These allocations reflect the federal government’s long-term commitment to improving education quality in the State,” she said.
She added that 160 out of 192 Chinese primary schools in Sarawak have received financial assistance from the federal government this year.
“The remaining (schools) that have applied will also receive similar aid as soon as possible,” she said.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting and Sarawak Education director Datu Dr Azhar Ahmad. — DayakDaily
