KUCHING, Jan 18: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Stampin Parliamentary Service Centre in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur City College will offer Diploma in Retail Management scholarships to 50 Sarawakian youths.
Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the scholarship programme will benefit those venturing into business and retail management to enhance their skills.
“The scholarship involves a 3-year course with all the tuition fees borne by a sponsor guaranteed by the College. The sponsor-to-be will be one of the retail chain businesses in the country, for instance, Giordano, Ichiban Boshi, Lenovo, TGI Fridays and O’Briens Irish Sandwich Café.
“This college programme can help students who failed their SPM to enrol in diploma or certificate programmes as well,” he said in a statement yesterday (Jan 17).
Chong who is the Stampin MP and Padungan assemblyman also disclosed that sponsored accommodation in Kuala Lumpur will be provided by the college for the successful applicants throughout the course of study.
All accommodation comes with facilities of security, swimming pool, and ease of transportation with light rail transit (LRT) which is 5 minutes’ distance from the hostel.
Chong also said on-job training during the course with monthly allowance of RM1,000 to RM1,200 will be paid to the student. Students who are aged 16 and 17 will receive monthly allowance of RM800.

Student applicants must have 3 credits in SPM for the Diploma course or 1 Credit in SPM for a 2-year certificate course or non-credit in SPM for the English Proficiency Programme.
Besides being open to youth and SPM leavers, the scholarship is also open to mature students.
