KUCHING, May 15: The drain at Lorong Batu Kawa 1 here is filled with logs and garbage, and overgrown with grass, says Michael Kong, special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen.
Kong claimed to have seen the drain in such terrible state while he was passing by the area recently.
He said the obstructions would result in flash floods during heavy rain and thus posed a severe threat to the residents’ safety and well-being.
“The MPP (Padawan Municipal Council) local council needs to fix and clean the drain right away.
“It is needless to remind Tan Kai, chairman of MPP that it is the council’s responsibility to ensure the drainage system is functioning correctly to prevent floods and the spread of water-borne diseases.
“Failure to do so will only exacerbate the problem and put the lives of residents at risk,” said Kong in a statement today.
He strongly urged MPP to immediately look into the repair and cleaning of the said drain. — DayakDaily
