DUN sitting commences today

KUCHING, May 15: The First Meeting of the Second Session of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting has commenced today with the opening ceremony officiated by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Taib and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib arrived to attend the ceremony located at the parade ground of DUN Complex around 10.30am.

The ceremony began with the Sarawak anthem ā€œIbu Pertiwikuā€ being sang followed by a prayer recital.


The dignitaries then received the Royal Salute from the Guard-of-Honour.

The ceremony continued with the Malaysian national anthem ā€œNegarakuā€ and the Sarawak anthem ā€œIbu Pertiwikuā€ before Taib headed to the DUN Chambers to deliver his opening address for the DUN sitting.

Amongst those present were Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, DUN Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar and his wife Datin Amar Dato Fatimah Mohamad Iskandar.

This DUN sitting will see three Bills being tabled, namely Supplementary Supply (2022) Bill, 2023; Supplementary Supply (2023) Bill, 2023; and Sarawak Craft Council Bill, 2023.

At the same time, a Ministerial Motion will be presented under Standing Order 23(1)(a), read together with Article 42 of the State Constitution, to authorise the government printer to print 10,000 copies of the State Constitution of Sarawak. ā€” DayakDaily
