KUCHING, Jan 3: Politicians who only appear during campaign period are those that give politics a bad name.

This is the view of Michael Kong, Special Assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

Kong in a statement today pointed out that during elections, there were parties emerging and their candidates started “to come out from their turtle shell”.

To him, it was worth noting that after election, candidates from the other parties such as Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Sarawak Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) or Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) were no longer being seen serving the people.

“Gone are the days where politicians may just appear in the public eye every now and then,” he said.

The disappearance of these candidates also spoke volume of the political parties if their candidates were of such character and trait.

“I hope this will remind the public which party is true in wanting to fight for the people and for a better society.

“Politics is a long journey. As politicians, win or lose, we must all continue to serve the people albeit in different capacities,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kong said he had hand-delivered the petition of installing fan units at the 7th Mile Wet Market which consisted of 55 signatures of stall-holders to Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) this afternoon.

“I hope that MPP will act on this request soonest possible,” he said.
