KUCHING, Jan 2: Traders at 7th Mile wet market sign petition requesting for Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to improve the facility.

Special Assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chief Chong Chieng Jen, Michael Kong said during his recent election campaign, he was informed by a few of the traders that for many years, they have been asking the council to install fan units at the wet market.

According to Kong, not only were their requests not met by MPP, the condition of the wet market has been allowed to deteriorate further.

“Today, Chong and I have gone around the entire wet market and gotten the traders to sign their names in favor of a petition for the installation of fan units in the said market,” he said in a statement today.

Kong said the wet market at 7th Mile has been constructed for many years and since its completion, there has been little upkeep of the facility.

He lamented that it has led to many issues such as poor ventilation, roofing issues, poor sanitation and many others.

“This petition will be delivered to MPP tomorrow for their consideration and we shall follow up on this issue from time to time until it comes to fruition,” he assured. – DayakDaily
