78yo man with no illness latest Covid-19 fatality, 12 cases recorded in Sarawak

KUCHING, Jan 3: A 78-year-old man from Kuching who has no medical conditions is the latest Covid-19 death reported in Sarawak today.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today, the man passed away on Dec 31, 2021.


This is the second Covid-19 fatality reported in 2022 after the first case was reported on Jan 1 involving a 56-year-old man from Sibu.

SDMC also informed that the number of Covid-19 positive cases in Sarawak continued to show a downward trend from 28 cases on Jan 1, 13 cases on Jan 2, and 12 cases on Jan 3 (today).

This brings the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 252,353.

Of the total cases, 9 are in Category 1 (no symptoms) and Category 2 (mild symptoms).

Meanwhile, three cases were classified as in the critical stage involving two Category 3 patients who developed pneumonia but can still breathe on their own and one Category 4 patient who needs oxygen supply.

By district, Bintulu took the lead with 4 cases, followed by Lawas and Kapit with 2 cases each, while Miri, Kuching, Samarahan, and Bau recorded one case each.

Thirty-three other districts did not record any new cases today.
