SIBU, Dec 22: Dabai (Canarium odontophyllum) is back in abundance now.

The season comes at the right time for Christmas event hosts to serve their guests with these fruits.

In July this year, with supply yet to peak, the price for dabai reached a whopping RM95 per kg.

However, a check at the Sibu Central Market today showed that prices for this seasonal fruit has dropped to a more affordable RM28 to RM60 per kg, depending on quality.

It comes as little surprise that this has attracted customers to the market.

A seller who wished to be known only as John said dabai season started a couple of weeks ago.

“Our dabai comes from Kanowit, Song and Kapit. It is usually available two times a year—December to January, and
May to June,” he said.

John together with about six other vendors are selling the popular fruit in the central market. He believed that the harvesting time for dabau will reach its peak in the next few days. — DayakDaily
