KUCHING, Dec 22: The Ang Cheng Ho Quarry rejuvenation project will stimulate future activities and growth in Greater Kuching, particularly in Kuching West, says Batu Kawah assemblyman Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

According to Dr Sim, who is also the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, the potential landmark is significant not only for Batu Kawah but also for Kuching.

“With 20 acres of lake and 40 acres of public park, mixed development with commercial and housing (working with private landowners as legacy development), and a water theme park, this could be another landmark not just for Batu Kawah, but for Kuching,” said Dr Sim in a Facebook post yesterday (Dec 21).

He went on to say that access to public recreation amenities will be improved further with the construction of a second Batu Kawah bridge nearby.

“I’m looking forward to holding functions in this air-conditioned multipurpose hall (with more than 100 dinner tables) and meeting the youth at their local community innovation hub,” he added.

In a separate Facebook post, Dr Sim, who is also the Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, stated that once the Riverbank Protection projects for Kampung Sinar Budi Lama and Kampung Rantau Panjang are completed, both will be part of the Batu Kawah Riverbank Park.

He also pointed out that both projects were running behind schedule due to delays in importing steel from China.

“With the current catch-up plan, completion is anticipated by August of next year,” he remarked. — DayakDaily
