Police: Darul Hana Bridge jump triggered by dare, suspect with 7 prior records tests positive for drugs

KUCHING, July 26: A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a bridge-jumping incident at the Darul Hana Bridge here that went viral on social media.

In a statement, Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspect was arrested at 10pm at Jalan Sekama here on Saturday (July 25).

“Police investigations revealed that the incident took place at about 10.30pm on July 23 (Thursday). Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect jumped from the bridge after being dared by another individual,” he said.

Checks also found that the suspect has seven previous criminal records. An initial urine screening test returned a positive result for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code for committing a rash or negligent act that endangers the life or personal safety of others. The offence carries a maximum penalty of three months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM500, or both, if convicted.

He also advised the public not to engage in any acts that could endanger their own lives or the safety of others.
