MIRI, March 22: All stage bus services across the state will cease operations temporarily effective today, while regional bus services will suspend operations starting tomorrow.

This following the advice the Health Ministry in light of the Movement Control Order (MCO), said Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

“All stage bus services in cities and towns throughout the state have ceased operations temporarily.

As for the regional bus services, based on their feedback on Saturday (March 21), one company is still operating today but by tomorrow (Monday), all will temporarily suspend their services until further notice from the government,” he told reporters in a statement.

Apart from the government and relevant agencies, Lee said all Sarawakians have an important role to play during this critical period to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

“It is imperative that we cooperate and work closely in unison and comply with the various measures introduced by the health authorities and under the MCO,” he continued.

Lee agreed with the sentiment that the restriction order and other health measures inevitably caused inconveniences and at times, frustrating. However, he reminded that these measures were necessary, based on experience undertaken by countries facing Covid-19 such as China.

“Please stay calm and do not panic, this is a crucial period to help each other.

“Forget our temporary inconveniences, stay at home and avoid unnecessary travel. Practise social distancing, no mass gathering, no fake news, no rumours, no finger pointing, no politics and no cheap publicity,” Lee said.
