Covid-19: Malaysia sees 941 new cases, five fatalities

KUCHING, March 29: A total of 941 new Covid-19 cases were reported nationwide today, with five deaths recorded in three states.

Ministry of Health (MOH) director general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a press statement today said from the total figures recorded today, eight were imported cases while 933 others are local transmission.

“Selangor reported the highest number of new daily cases today with 219 cases (23.3 per cent), followed by Sarawak with 192 cases (20.4 per cent) and Johor with 171 cases (18.2 per cent). This brings the total cumulative number of cases involving Covid-19 in the country to 342,885 cases, with 14,219 active cases,” he said.


Other states that recorded new daily cases today are namely Penang (164), Kuala Lumpur (57), Kelantan (49), Sabah (34), Negeri Sembilan (18), Kedah (13), Melaka (eight), Perak (five), Pahang (five), Terengganu (four), and one each for Labuan and Putrajaya, while Perlis recorded zero new case.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham disclosed a total of 1,097 positive Covid-19 cases have also recovered and discharged from the hospitals today, bringing the total number of recovered Covid-19 cases in the country to 327,406 cases (95.5 per cent).

According to him, currently a total of 166 Covid-19 cases are being treated in the hospital intensive care unit with 73 cases under respiratory assistance.

“Today, two Covid-19 death cases were reported in Sarawak involving Malaysians in Bintulu and Miri hospitals, followed by two cases in Sabah involving one Malaysian and one foreigner in Tawau Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, while another one case was reported in Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor, involving a  Malaysian,” he said.

On the same note, Dr Noor Hisham revealed three new clusters have also been identified as of today involving two work places and one community cluster.

He said the new clusters are namely the Seksyen 16 cluster (18 cases) in Selangor, Taman Vistagro cluster (18 ) in Sarawak and Jalan Azlan cluster (nine cases) in Kuala Lumpur.

“A total of 45 individuals were tested positive for Covid-19 from the three new clusters,” he said. — DayakDaily
