Covid-19 cluster emerges in Kg Tema Saan in Tebedu with 41 cases confirmed

KUCHING, June 29: A new Covid-19 cluster has emerged at a settlement at Kampung Tema Saan in Tebedu after 41 people there contracted the disease.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, revealed that this community cluster named the Tema Saan Cluster is one of two new Covid-19 clusters declared in Sarawak today.

As of today, a total of 222 individuals have been screened whereby 181 tested negative for the first swab test while no results are pending.


All positive cases have been admitted to the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Serian for treatment and isolation.

Meanwhile, the other new cluster was identified in Tatau and named the Nanga Belungai Cluster. It stemmed from a communal ‘gotong-royong’ (work party) involving residents of a longhouse under lockdown, with 13 cases confirmed so far.

The State Health Department also declared the end of the Jalan Simpang Tiga Cluster in Kuching today after no new cases were identified in the past 28 days.

With this, the number of active clusters in Sarawak is now 98, out of which 12 clusters saw an increase in daily infections totaling 37 cases today.

They include the Nanga Belungai Cluster in Tatau which registered nine cases, Simpang Koko Cluster in Sarikei (6 cases), Jalan Jee Cattleya Cluster in Miri (3 cases), Kavok Cluster in Telang Usan, Tebakang Dayak Cluster in Serian and Kampung Serikin Cluster in Bau (2 cases each), while Sungai Long Seripa Cluster in Sebauh, Mongkos 2 Cluster in Tebedu, Gran Stumbin Cluster in Sri Aman, Sungai Kakus Cluster in Tatau, Bali Pie Cluster in Subis has one case each. — DayakDaily
