Convicted drug user gets 5 years’ jail, 1 stroke for using drugs again

KUCHING, August 14: A man with two previous convictions for drug consumption was today sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and one stroke of the rotan for consuming amphetamine and methamphetamine, again.


Chiam Tau Hung, 31, from Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang, pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad.

The jail term is to take effect from the first day of remand, which is March 4, 2019.

Chiam was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act as he has two same convictions in 2013.

He was found administrated with amphetamine and methamphetamine at a Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) office on Feb 28, 2019, at about 10.45pm.

Deputy public prosecutor Ruthra Ruj prosecuted, while the accused was represented by counsel Lee Lian Kee. — DayakDaily
