KUCHING, July 28: The Immigration Department has begun the phased rollout of the new international passport in Sarawak and Sabah as part of its nationwide implementation.
In a Facebook post, the department said that passport-issuing offices in the two States would implement the rollout in two phases, with Phase 6 starting on Monday (July 27), and Phase 7 on Aug 3.
Offices under Phase 6 are Bintulu, Sri Aman and the urban transformation centres (UTCs) in Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, and Keningau.
As for Phase 7, it covers the offices in Kuching, Lawas, Limbang, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), Lahad Datu, and the Labuan UTC.
The department also told the public not to rush to change their passports as existing passports remain valid until six months before their expiry date.
Malaysians aged 18 and above have been able to apply for the new passport since July 1, with a choice of a five- or 10-year validity period.
The upgraded document features 94 security enhancements. — DayakDaily
