SIBU, Feb 6: Construction work on a 3km-cycling track and walking track upgrades has begun at Permai Lake Garden here.

This Permai Lake Gardens upgrading Package 1 is part of Sibu Municipal Council’s project to improve facilities at the said garden.

SMC chairman Clarence Ting said at the handing over of the project to the contractor today that the two projects are expected to be completed in October this year.

The project was handed over by SMC Building Control and Town Beautification Standing Committee chairman Cr Raymond Tiong to a representative of the contractor.

“This package costing RM3.388 million will be completed in October 2023. It will see the addition of a 3km-cycling track and upgrading of the walking track,” he said.

Ting advised park users to follow safety directions set by the council during the construction period.

Package 1 is part of a major upgrade for Permai Lake Garden at a cost of RM8 million.

The upgrading work on this 20-year-old garden will take three years to complete.

Some parts of the garden will be converted into a science park that can be enjoyed by children, and more car parking areas will be created. — DayakDaily
