Community cluster in Ulu Durin Kiba among two new Covid-19 clusters

KUCHING, March 7: A community cluster centred on a longhouse in Ulu Durin Kiba, Sibu is among two new Covid-19 clusters identified by the State Health Department today.

According to a press statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the two new clusters were identified in Sibu and named the Kiba Cluster and Jalan Awang Cluster respectively.


For the Kiba Cluster, the index case, Case 9,790, is a 53-year-old woman identified through symptomatic screening on Feb 27.

Following active case detection among close contacts and within her community, 32 more cases were identified.

SDMC disclosed that a total of 92 individuals have been screened for Covid-19, whereby 33 individuals tested positive including the index case, while 56 individuals tested negative. Three individuals are awaiting test results.

Meanwhile, the Jalan Awang Cluster involves prisoners at the Sibu Prison at Jalan Awang.

SDMC disclosed that the cluster was identified following active case detection which was carried out by the Sibu Health Department on March 4.

Subsequently, a total of 42 Covid-19 cases were discovered, involving 41 male inmates and one female inmate.

The committee disclosed a total of 43 individuals have been swabbed for Covid-19, with 42 individuals testing positive and one testing negative. No laboratory test results are pending for this cluster.

SDMC also announced two clusters in Sarawak have been declared ended by the State Health Department, namely the Jelita Cluster in Miri and the Indah Riang Cluster in Kuching.

Both clusters did not report new cases over the past 14 days. — DayakDaily
