SIBU, Dec 17: Six men who went after a driver of a car with a dangerous weapon following a minor accident at Jalan Foochow have been arrested yesterday.
Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the six aged between 25 to 32 were picked up at the accident scene at 4.45pm.
The police managed to trace and later detained the 39-year old driver of a Hyundai Atos.
ACP Stanley said in the 4pm accident, two men were traveling in a Proton Wira at about 4pm at Jalan Foochow when their vehicle was rammed from behind by the Hyundai Atos.
“The Wira was travelling along the narrow road when it was hit from behind by an Atos car. The driver of the Wira together with a passenger alighted from the car which resulted in a quarrel,” he said.
In the midst of the argument, the driver of the Atos car subsequently sped off.
This angered the two suspects who called up four friends.
“A D7 team who happened to pass by the area saw six men behaving aggressively. They were arrested. The team had also seized two parangs, a stick and a boomerang from them,” he said.
After the arrest of the Atos car driver, both vehicles were also confiscated and sent to the central police station.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possessing dangerous weapons while rioting and Section 6 of the Dangerous Weapon Act.
