Man gets 10 years jail for causing harm, possessing dangerous weapon

KUCHING, Nov 19: Sessions Court here sentenced an unemployed man to 10 years jail and 2 strokes of the cane for hurting his brother and possessing a dangerous weapon.

Mohamad Ridzuwan Aris, 29, was charged with two counts and he pleaded guilty to both.


Sessions Court Judge Steve Ritikos accepted his plea of guilt and sentenced him to a prison term of five years and two strokes of the cane for possessing a dangerous weapon and another five years for hurting his brother.

However, Judge Steve Ritikos ordered the prison term to run concurrently. Therefore, he will be in prison for five years only.

He was found guilty of voluntarily causing hurt to his brother, Mohamad Khairulafza, 35 outside their house in Kampung Lidah Tanah, Bau, on November 1, 2020, at about 8.30 pm.

The victim suffered a laceration wound on his left wrist.

The accused was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code which was read together with Section 326A of the Penal Code which carries a maximum imprisonment of twenty years or with fine and with whipping upon conviction.

He was also charged under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapon Act 1958 as he was found carrying a kerambit Knife unlawfully, in front of a mosque in Kampung Lidah Tanah, on November 10, 2020, at about 8.30 pm.
