KUCHING, Feb 9: A Covid-19 cluster believed to have stemmed from Chinese New Year celebrations on Feb 1 has emerged in Kampung Semeba here, infecting 17 individuals so far.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said out of 139 screening tests related to the Kampung Semeba Cluster, 122 samples were negative.
“This is a community cluster which was detected involving a private residence at Kampung Semeba, Kuching.
“The index case (Case 253,021) to the cluster was discovered through symptomatic screening at a health facility on Feb 5.
“Investigations also found the index case to have travel history of returning from Kuala Lumpur on Jan 31,” it said in a statement today.
SDMC gave assurance that all positive cases have been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), the Quarantine and Low-risk Treatment Centre (PKRC), and the Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) Kuching.
As of today, the Kampung Semeba Cluster is the only active Covid-19 cluster in Sarawak.
Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded 184 new Covid-19 cases today, increasing the cumulative number of cases Statewide to 253,400.
In terms of clinical categories, there were 101 cases in Category 1, 80 in Category 2, and one each in Categories 3, 4 and 5.
District-wise, Kuching ranked the highest with 79 cases, followed by Miri with 39 cases, Sibu (28) and Lundu (10).
Other districts with new infections were Bintulu (8), Kapit (6), Limbang (4), Sarikei (2), Samarahan (2), Serian (1), Song (1), Meradong (1), Belaga (1), Lawas (1), and Kanowit (1). — DayakDaily
