KUCHING, Feb 9: Through the Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDAS), the Sarawak government will provide cash assistance up to RM10,000 to B40 and M40 first-time home buyers as payment for housing deposit.

Assistant Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang said the scheme is open to Sarawakians and applicable to affordable housing projects sanctioned by the State government subject to the maximum price of RM300,000.

Under this scheme, property purchased must be from registered developers with Mortgage & Credit Sdn Bhd (Mutiara) while the sales and purchase agreement or booking and sales confirmation slip issued by developer must not be dated earlier than Oct 12, 2021.

“This HDAS scheme is specially catering for young Sarawakians who are looking to buy their first homes but can not afford them.

“The GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) government through the scheme can help these young people by providing cash assistance of 10 per cent of the purchase price or RM10,000, whichever is lower,” he said in a post on social media.

Those who are building houses on their own land will also be eligible for HDAS if the land is approved by the Land and Survey Department on allotment of land under the Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) or Resettlement Scheme (SPS), and financing applied with Mutiara under the Spektra Mutiara Programme. — DayakDaily
