KUCHING, Feb 19: Concerned citizens urged the management of MJC Batu Kawah New Township and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to address the dilapidated drain covers in one of MJC’s building blocks that have caused injuries to pedestrians.

A Facebook account named Raymond Thong, in his post yesterday (Feb 18), said the drain covers are especially dangerous for senior citizens.

“The situation is made worse at night because of poor lighting,” he said.

Yesterday, Thong shared a video and photos taken on Feb 17 at Block Br, in MJC Batu Kawa, showing the deteriorating condition of the drain covers.

According to Thong, on Feb 8 (two days before Chinese New Year), a man fell into the drain, but fortunately, he did not suffer severe injuries after the cement cover broke when he stepped onto it.

“Further down, you will see another hole with no cement cover and a polystyrene pipe passing underneath.

“The front wheels of two cars dropped into that hole about two months ago. The tyre and rims were badly damaged,” he said.

Apart from that, Thong said he also attached photos of a youth who suffered severe injuries after he stepped on the cement cover and fell into it.

He also said because the youth is suffering from diabetes, his wounds took more than a year to heal.

“Actually, in that same year, another youth also fell into the drain after the cement cover broke, but he suffered minor concussions,” he added. — DayakDaily
