Churches reminded to comply with Covid-19 SOPs during Holy Week

KUCHING, March 27: All churches services held during the Holy Week in the state are reminded to adhere to the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs), said Association of Churches Sarawak (ACS) chairman Archbishop Simoh Poh.

Poh, in a press statement today, said he is grateful to the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) for getting the approval from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to allow churches in red and orange zones to be opened for masses or services for a maximum of 20 assigned church leaders to conduct Holy Week.

“Though congregation in churches is not allowed in red or orange zones, the designated 20 church leaders will be the representatives for all Christians to pray and intercede before God during this sacred Holy Week for all people in Sarawak, the nation, as well as the world during this global pandemic.

“As we are currently in red zone but with permission to open, I would like to emphasise that it is our social responsibility in all churches that are holding masses and services in respective churches to give full compliance to safety SOP to ensure that Covid-19 is contained in Sarawak,” he said.

Poh noted, masses and services with 20 persons are a concession to allow for Christians to celebrate Palm Sunday, the Lord’s Supper on Thursday, commemorating Jesus’s death on Good Friday, celebrating Christ’s Resurrection on Vigil and Easter Sunday.

“On behalf of ACS church leaders, I take this opportunity to bring the greetings, peace and blessing of Holy Week and Easter to all Christians and people of goodwill,” he added. — DayakDaily
