Spike in Samarahan Covid-19 cases as new cluster concerning 3 districts sets in

KUCHING, March 27: The number of Covid-19 cases in Samarahan has escalated today with an additional 20 cases from yesterday (March 26)’s 11 cases as a new community cluster affecting three neighbouring districts broke out.

According to the reports by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, Samarahan recorded a total of 31 new cases for the day and was placed the fourth highest after Sibu with 49 cases, Bintulu with 44 and Miri with 40.


Other districts seeing new Covid-19 cases are Kuching (19), Serian (19), Bukit Mabong (13), Julau (10), Kanowit (8), Kapit (7), Sri Aman (7), Beluru (7), Meradong (3), Sarikei (3), Song (3), Marudi (1), Matu (1), Pakan (1) and Tanjung Manis (1).

With that, the cumulative number of positive cases in Sarawak now stands at 15,443.

In brief, 134 cases were detected following close contact screenings where 12 of them were symptomatic.

Another 96 cases were individual screenings from existing active clusters where six showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

Adding on, 30 cases were from other screenings in health facilities, six cases were from symptomatic tests in health facilities and the remaining one was an Import-A case from Italy.

While there was no new fatalities reported today, the committee noted 278 new recoveries in Sarawak from 10 hospitals or Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRCs).

Meanwhile, there are 2,663 patients who are still receiving treatment in the hospitals across the state. — DayakDaily
