KUCHING, April 22: The Association of Churches Sarawak (ACS) has urged all Malaysians to use Hari Raya Aidilfirti as an opportunity to resolve to walk and work together as fellow citizens to bring about greater understanding, respect, peace, justice and harmony in the nation.

ACS chairman Right Rev Bishop Datuk Danald Jute highlighted this in extending a warm Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to the Muslim community as they celebrate the end of Ramadan and the start of Aidilfitri.

“It is with joy that the Christian community extends a very warm Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to the Muslim community.

“As you celebrate this auspicious feast, having observed the fasting month of Ramadan, we pray that this celebration will bring greater blessings of joy and happiness to all, especially as families, friends and neighbours gather together from near and far to celebrate in the Malaysian style,” he said in a statement today.

The Anglican Bishop of Sarawak and Brunei also expressed gratitude for the warm and meaningful greetings extended to the Christian community by their Majesties Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, during the recent Good Friday and Easter celebrations.

As Malaysia continues to celebrate its diversity, Danald hopes the message of unity and respect will inspire all Malaysians to work towards a brighter and more peaceful future for all.

“We are most blessed in Malaysia as we celebrate the various religious and cultural festivals together. This is indeed what Malaysia is about – a celebration of colours and creeds,” he added. — DayakDaily
