KUCHING, Jan 13: A student of Chung Hua Middle School No 1 who has just graduated has been tested positive for Covid-19.

According to the chairman of Board of Management Committee for Kuching Chung Hua Middle School No 1, 3 & 4 Dato Richard Wee, the school was informed of the case this morning.

“Because of that, I have to self-quarantine myself for 14 days,” Wee told DayakDaily.

He said he may have been in contact with the student as they both attended a graduation ceremony on Jan 9, 2021.

Usually, the school will invite a VVIP, usually a minister to be guest of honour for the graduation ceremony. In view of Covid-19, the school had simplified the whole event where only graduating students, teachers and members of the school board were allowed to attend. Instead of a minister, Wee gave away the scroll on that day.

Wee said he has lost count of the number of times he is under quarantine since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic in Sarawak.

“However, it is what it is and I will definitely self-quarantine for the next 14 days. I also call on all Sarawakians to be responsible individuals.

“At this time when we are experiencing another wave of pandemic attack, let us be vigilant, alert and follow SOPs (standard operating procedures).

“And if there is any chance that we may be in contact with a positive case, we quarantine ourselves rather than going around just because we don’t have any symptoms,” said Wee. -Dayakdaily
