KUCHING, Dec 8: Kuching City First Choir Association (KCFA) invites choral art practitioners, the music and arts community, and members of the public to to Choral Art Talk 2023 (CAT’ 23) on Dec 10 at Telang Usan Hotel.
In a statement today, KCFA said the event, which will be from 2pm until 5pm and organised in collaboration with The Sarawak Initiatives (TSI), is an exploration into the world of choral art and Sarawak.
“Themed ‘Choral Art and Sarawak’, CAT’ 23 aspires to cast a spotlight on the profound value of nurturing Sarawakian music, inviting attendees to develop a rich appreciation for its cultural significance and examine the fusion of choral art with the distinctive melodies that define the region,” it said.
Among the speaker lineup for CAT’ 23 are retired IPG lecturer renowned for extensive research on Kenyah music Dr Chong Pek Lin, together with Unimas (Universiti Malaysia Sarawak) lecturer specialising in Sarawak ethnomusicology and committed to unraveling the cultural nuances of Sarawak’s musical landscape, Dr Connie Lim Keh Nie.
An international music industry player and recipient of multiple international recognitions, Dr Kamil Salem will also share his experiences and expertise, providing his perspective on the imperative task of preserving and promoting Sarawakian music.
