Chong: Blame PM, his ministers and PN for ineffective Covid-19 control, not Health DG

KUCHING, July 11: It is Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, his ministers and Perikatan Nasional (PN) who are responsible for the nation’s ineffective Covid-19 control, not the Health director-general.

Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, in stating this, said Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing is barking at the wrong tree for calling on Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah to resign in view of the record high of 9,353 Covid-19 cases in Malaysia yesterday (July 10).

Instead of calling for Muhyiddin’s resignation, Chong said Tiong and the other Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders and Members of Parliament (MPs) have resolved to continue to support PN, despite its failure to contain the Coronavirus after months of MCO.

Chong said the PN government’s failure is evident also through the cries and sufferings of the people during this pandemic.

“Many businesses have gone under or are on the verge of going under, and yet the government is only giving very superficial assistance.

“(There is also) the totally ineffective, illogical and confusing SOP (standard operating procedure) which opens the people and the business sectors to unreasonable compounds,” he said in a statement today.

The Kota Sentosa assemblyman also said Malaysia’s medical services continue to struggle and are on the brink of breaking down due to high caseloads daily, despite the government’s huge expenditure in billions on tackling Covid-19.

With that, he urged Tiong not to try and cover up the mistakes of the PN government by making unreasonable call-outs and pushing the government’s blame on Dr Noor Hisham.

Tiong, in an earlier statement today, had criticised Dr Noor Hisham for the latter’s disregard of asymptomatic patients in Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 count and for not properly isolating them. — DayakDaily
