KUCHING, Feb 4: A total of 397 families affected by the recent flood disaster have benefited from the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak Food Aid Drive that was conducted recently.
PKR Sarawak Women chief Cherishe Ng in a statement today, said the Food Aid Drive, is a joint-efforts of Keadilan Bandar Kuching and Stampin Branch which was aimed at reaching out to the needy in time of hardship since Jan 11, this year.
According to her, at a time of global health crisis, the political parties, and other political organizations have an obligation of helping the poor who are worst hit by the pandemic.
“Shortly after the Food Aid Drive was conducted in mid-January, many areas of Kuching became inundated due to monsoon rain. It was a double blow for the hardcore poor who’s striving to make ends meet in the face of Covid-19. Thus, parts of the efforts for the Food Aid Drive were redirected into Flood Aid Relief instead,” she said.
Ng noted beside Bandar Kuching and Stampin constituency, the Food Aid Drive also benefited other parts of Sarawak, namely in Puncak Borneo, Sibu and Bintulu areas.
So far, she said, Keadilan Bandar Kuching has successfully directed 200 packs of food aid essentials to Puncak Borneo areas, 70 to Sibu areas and 100 Bintulu areas, for distribution to those affected by the floods and Covid-19.
“Other Keadilan branches have also successfully distributed food aid via “Keadilan Sarawak – Solidarity for Sarawak” campaign.
“These food packages are to be distributed through coordination of the various Keadilan branches directly to the people in need,” she added. –DayakDaily.
