Car plunges off Tanjung Kunyit ferry point: Body of woman identified

SIBU, Jan 12: The body of a woman who was found floating in the Batang Lebaan River, Bawang Assan on Monday has been identified.

Sibu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Zulkipli Suhaili said today that the victim was identified as 37-year-old Li Joon Hui from Kuching.

According to Zulkipli, the victim’s family members had identified and claimed the body at the Sibu Hospital mortuary on Tuesday.


The funeral service for the victim is slated to be held on Jan 14 at St Thomas Cathedral, Kuching.

In last Friday’s incident, two of the three passengers of the car that plunged into the river at the Tanjung Kunyit Jetty were reported missing while a 38-year-old man who was the driver of the car survived.

The body of Philip Yiin Chung Leong, 61-years-old was found by a member of the public in Batang Lebaan about 10km from the scene on Sunday morning.

Joon Hui’s body was found at 9am on Monday morning.

The cases have been classified as sudden death. — DayakDaily
