LUBOK ANTU, June 3: A 31-year-old man was found drowned after disappearing beneath the water while swimming at the Batang Ai hydroelectric reservoir here on Tuesday evening (June 2).

The victim, who had been spending time with his family at the location, was reported to have jumped into the water for a swim but failed to resurface.

According to information received from the complainant, family members immediately launched a search for the victim but were unable to locate him.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and other relevant agencies were subsequently alerted for assistance at 6.05pm.

A team from the Betong Station, led by Operations Commander PPgB Muhammad Badrulamin Mohammad Fodzi, arrived at the scene at 7.18pm and conducted a search and rescue (SAR) operation.

The first dive operation, involving two members of the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) Betong, commenced at 8.25pm. However, the divers surfaced at 9.07pm after failing to locate the victim.

A second dive was initiated at 9.40pm in the area where the victim was believed to have disappeared.

Just a minute later, at 9.41pm, the victim was found at a depth of approximately five metres and within a one-metre radius of the spot where he was last seen.

The victim was pronounced dead and his body was handed over to the police at 9.55pm for further action and investigation. — DayakDaily
