MIRI, Jan 7: The construction of the Canada Hill public toilet is nearly complete at 95 per cent, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew revealed today.

Fully funded by the State government via Ting’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) funds, the RM200,000 project is expected to be completed in mid-January (next Saturday).

Construction work began on Sept 13 last year, and was supposed to be completed within three months.

However, it was unable to be finished on time due to some delays in material supply.

On Friday, Ting visited the site and was satisfied with the construction works.

“Overall, the construction works are progressing very well, despite some delays, and the contractor has given their assurance that the project would be finished on Jan 15 next week,” said Ting.

He added that once completed, the public toilet would provide restroom facilities for Canada Hill patrons.

The toilet also includes a space for people with disabilities.

On another note, Ting suggested that given the fact that Canada Hill is one of the top tourist attraction sites in Miri, developing tourism facilities based on geotourism at the site will provide ample opportunities for students and visitors to discover and conduct research on rock formations in the area. — DayakDaily
