SIBU, Nov 8: The Royal Malaysian Navy Veterans Association (PVTLDM) has proposed exploring military tourism more extensively through collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) to promote the country’s maritime heritage, including in Sarawak.

Its president, Commander Khairil Hariss Khairuddin, said many countries had turned military history, warships, maritime museums, and the heritage of military heroes into high-value tourism products that generate historical, educational, and economic benefits.

He said Sarawak’s unique culture, river heritage, and maritime identity offered opportunities to develop tourism products based on military and maritime history.

“I believe the experience and expertise of Navy veterans can be utilised in developing tourism products centred on military and maritime heritage.

“Therefore, we hope Motac, under the leadership of its minister, Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, can work together with PVTLDM to explore this potential,” he said.

He said this at the Malam Warisan Samudera Gala Amal Veteran, organised by the PVTLDM Sarawak Branch and officiated by Tiong on Saturday (Nov 7), as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).

The Malam Warisan Samudera Gala Amal Veteran also took the opportunity to honour the contributions and sacrifices of widows, family members, recipients of State honours, and dedicated veteran figures. — DayakDaily
