KUCHING, Oct 9: A businessman in his 50s has lost savings totalling RM560,000 after falling victim to a phone scam.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mancha Ata said the incident began in mid-September when the victim received a call from an unknown individual claiming that there is a parcel in Perlis believed to be his.

The suspect then instructed the victim to call another individual who disguised himself as a policeman working in Perlis.

“The victim then made several online transactions to a bank account in early October this year, amounting to RM560,000.

“The victim only realised he had been cheated after he conveyed the incident to his wife,” Mancha said in a statement today. — DayakDaily
