SADONG JAYA, Sept 15: The design of Dataran Warisan, located at the Sadong Jaya Waterfront, has received international recognition from the International Academy for Design and Health in Sweden, highlighting the area’s potential to be developed as a heritage-based tourism destination.
In a TVS news report, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang said the project design is among five iconic tourism development projects planned for Sadong Jaya, which are expected to begin next year.
She said the recognition reflects efforts to enhance the area’s appeal through development that incorporates heritage elements, design, and tourism value.
“We have received approval, together with Sarawak Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, regarding the planning framework and design.
“I am pleased to inform you that, as Datuk Aidel mentioned earlier, the design for Dataran Warisan Sadong Jaya recently won the International Design, Green and Hub award and will receive its award on Oct 1.
“The building’s design has been recognised internationally,” she said after chairing the IRSDA Socio-Economic Development Committee Project Meeting at the Batang Sadong Service Centre here today.
Meanwhile, Aidel said the award ceremony will be held on Oct 1 at the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) Complex.
He also called on all agencies to work together to ensure the five projects proceed according to the planned schedule.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, the five tourism development projects, with a combined value of around RM31 million, are set to add a new dimension to the landscape of Sadong Jaya.
In addition to Dataran Warisan Sadong Jaya, planned components include Titian Sadong Jaya and the Heritage Gallery. — DayakDaily
