KUCHING, June 20: The Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUNS) will convene a special one-day sitting on July 7, according to an official notice issued today by Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar to all 82 members of the Assembly.
The notice states that the Second Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (Special Sitting) will take place at 9am at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Complex.
However, no reason was provided for the meeting, which is being called under Meeting Order 8(3).
All members have been instructed to attend and confirm their presence.
This special sitting comes less than two months after the Assembly last adjourned on May 28, suggesting that the Sarawak government may have pressing matters requiring legislative discussion or approval.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian confirmed the upcoming sitting when met after officiating the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), Sarikei District Council, and Urbanice Malaysia for the reparation of a Voluntary Local Review (VLR) on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“For the agenda, you’ll have to ask the Premier. We were only informed that there will be a special DUNS sitting on July 7,” he said in a pre-recorded interview, adding that the Premier “will be tabling it”.
Dr Sim added that he also does not have the details in relation to the agenda of the special sitting.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg made no mention of any July sitting during his closing remarks at the end of the previous session. — DayakDaily
