KUCHING, 23 Dis: The ‘Sarawak for Sarawakians’ (S4S) movement wants the Sarawak government to build border walls and block the “jalan tikus” along the border that used by illegal foreign workers to sneak into this state.
S4S spokesperson Tan Kok Chiang said this is in response to the endless problem of “jalan tikus” at the Sarawak border and people are worried that these illegal foreign workers will spread the Covid-19 virus in Sarawak.
“Sarawak government should learn from other countries to deal with border problems. At present the most effective border issue in the world is the construction of walls,”he said in his statement today.
Tan who also Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) candidate for Kota Sentosa state’s constituency said among the countries is China that has now built a wall of more than 1,000 kilometers and two meters high on Myanmar and Vietnamese borders to prevent people from neighbouring countries from sneaking into the country.
“Sarawak government received probably about RM9 billion in 2020 from oil tax and federal budget appropriations and a small portion of which could be allocated to build border walls and prevent people with diseases from sneaking into Sarawak illegally,” he said.
Other than that, he said the Sarawak government distributing a large number of masks for superficial work but did not test the imported workers in the first place and there was nothing they could do in the face of at least a thousand “jalan tikus’ at Sarawak border.
“It is more important to formulate a preventive policy than to send a mask,” he said citing Singapore and China governments have not sent masks everywhere, but have formulated policies to check whether imported workers are infected with Covid-19.-DayakDaily
