KUCHING, July 17: Brazil is seeking to enter the Sarawak market by exporting halal meat to Sarawak, while Nepal wishes to increase bilateral trade in terms of cultural exchange and climate change.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Brazilian ambassador to Malaysia Ary Norton de Murat Quintella said Brazil is the world’s leading exporter of halal meat and poultry.
At the same time, he noted that halal animal protein is very important to Malaysia.
“However, Brazil has yet to export to Sarawak, and we are now interested in doing so. That is what I have discussed with the Premier of Sarawak,” he said after paying a courtesy call to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
Meanwhile, Nepali ambassador to Malaysia, Dilli Raj Poudel, said Nepal and Sarawak are looking into increasing their bilateral trade, especially in terms of cultural exchange apart from the potential collaboration in addressing climate change.
“Climate change is a global issue. As you know, Mount Everest is on the crest of the Great Himalayas located in Nepal, so we want to protect the glacier by addressing the global climate change issue,” he stated.
He also paid a courtesy call to Abang Johari on the same day.
Abang Johari also received another courtesy call from the Natural Resources and Environment Board Sarawak (NREB) delegation led by the Controller of Environmental Quality Sarawak, Jack Liam.
It was Jack’s first visit to Abang Johari following his appointment as the Controller on May 1, 2023.
Speaking to reporters, Jack said several proposals were presented to Abang Johari on the activities and programmes related to environmental care for the 30th anniversary of NREB next year. — DayakDaily
