KUCHING, March 9: A Search and Rescue (SAR) operation was carried out after an 11-year-old boy fell into the river during a fishing trip at Kampung Buntal, Santubong, today.
The state Fire and Rescue operation centre immediately mobilised firefighters from Petra Jaya after being informed of the incident by the Volunteer Firefighters Association at 3.55pm.
“It was reported that the victim fell from a nearby jetty into the river, before he was swept away by the stream, during a fishing trip together with two other friends,” the department said in a statement.
At press time, the SAR operation, involving the police, People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and local villagers, were still looking for any sign of the victim at the nearby area from where the victim was last seen. — DayakDaily
