KUCHING, Nov 30: Borneo’s first full orchestra anime live concert, ‘An Anime Symphony,’ will take centre stage at the Lodge National Secondary School Hall on Dec 9, 2023.
Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the concert’s primary aim is to spotlight Sarawak’s rich arts, culture, and music heritage through the captivating lens of anime music.
The concert targets audiences who love anime, comics, and games, with origins from Japan, as well as those who appreciate music in general.
Abdul Karim stated, “This concert will also highlight the talent of young Sarawakians who are participating. It provides a platform for musicians and the art-related industry, which has been badly affected by Covid-19.”
He emphasised that such a concert would promote cross-collaboration between musicians from different backgrounds and attract diverse audiences, including anime orchestral music enthusiasts.
The event is part of Sarawak’s 60th Anniversary celebration and an effort by the ministry to build performing arts in the State.
The orchestra will involve a 55-piece orchestra with a total of 70 musicians and artists, including singers and cosplayers.
Abdul Karim expects an audience of 800 to 1,000, with a potential viewership of more than 50,000 if it is broadcast live.
He said there be performances from popular titles such as Violet Evergarden, Genshin Impact, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Pokemon, Digimon, Detective Conan and Demon Slayer.
“It will feature performance by renowned local singers such as Ng Chien Chien, Mal Imran, Christine Chai and Shann Liaw,” he revealed.
The event is organised by The Band Lab (Persatuan Wind Orkestra Kuching), and supported by MYSED and the Ministry of Tourism Creative Industry and Performance Art (MTCP).
The concert is scheduled for 2pm and 8pm. The ticket prices start at RM59 on thebandlab.com/anime.
