KUCHING, June 26: Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) Sarawak demands activist and lawyer Asiah Abdul Jalil to make a public apology to the people of Sarawak and Sabah.
Its chairman Jeffery Ngui said Borneo is not a liability, and Sabah and Sarawak are not beggars.
“Asiah’s recent negative comment is irrelevant personal opinion that should be curbed to protect the sensitivity of plural society,” he said in a statement yesterday (June 25).
Ngau was responding to a post by Asiah on her Facebook page dated June 23.
He said Sarawak, through its resources such as natural gas and petroleum, has long contributed to the economic development of this country.
“The diversity of race, religion and background in Sarawak is therefore the main pillar for the harmony of the community here,” he added.
In her Facebook post, Aisah said if she was a civil servant assigned to serve in Sarawak or Sabah, she would resign within 24 hours. As a West Malaysian, she said, she saw the two regions as unsuitable to further a career, to plan a family or raise school-going children, and would put mental and emotional health at risk.
Yesterday, a political secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Susan Clement Ingun said Aisah’s negative comment about Sarawak and Sabah showed the lawyer had a mentality similar to that of a comedian who went viral recently for a video of her standup routine which included a joke about the MH370 tragedy and references to Malaysia as a third world country. — DayakDaily
